The blue spruce trees are trees that commonly grow in the mountain valleys along the water springs. The trees are usually evergreen and are used for beautification purposes. Despite the trees ornamental nature, they are still susceptible to diseases just like other plants.

The Cytospora canker is one of the common diseases that affect the blue trees. It is usually brought about by growing the tree in a dirty place with infected plants and soil. The branches dry up and scatter all over leaving a sticky white substance on the surface.

The disease can be prevented by planting the tree in clean and aerated soil. Fungicides can be sprayed on the infected plant to kill the causative agent. The tree should be pruned more often during the dry seasons and burning all the infected parts.

When planting space the trees well for proper aeration and avoid sharing of mulching when used while wet. Prevention is better than cure and therefore the best way to fight the disease is by preventing it.
